Sports reviews of 407 BLACK TACTICAL MARCHING COMPASSCustomer Review: Cheap Sport shop rating: 2 Stars
Buy cheap you get cheap. It works but I don't know how much abuse it can take. I have to tap it with my finger to get the pin to move but when it is done I have found the readings to be consistent.
Customer Review: Not the best compass. Sport shop rating: 2 Stars
The dial tends to tilt and not level out correctly causing it to stick and take a while to get a correct reading. I wish I just spent the extra money on a military surplus compass.
Customer Review: Lower quality than I expected Sport shop rating: 1 Stars
I'm not sure what the story is with the 5-star reviews listed here. Maybe they got a different product. I tested this out five times in the same spot while out hiking (got it out of my pocket, opened it up and leveled it to find magnetic north, then closed it and put it back in my pocket) and it pointed four slightly different directions. My old Silva clear plastic compass, on the other hand, pointed the same exact direction each time. To its credit, this compass was apparently correct on the two occasions when it agreed with itself.
In a survival situation, this compass would be better than not having one, but that's all I can say for it.
Customer Review: Very poor compass Sport shop rating: 1 Stars
This compass first of all is plastic instead of the metal ones I am used to in the military. Most importantly the magnet they have used for this product is a very very weak magnet. Took at least four attempts to orient the device to finally get a reading of north on it. For 8$ I got what I paid for; If you want the item that the military uses save yourself the trouble and go to the surplus store in your area. Lesson learned
Customer Review: this compas is of poor quality Sport shop rating: 1 Stars
I bought this after reading the previous reviews. This compass was a disappointment at first sight. The needle barely moves, and it doesn't always point to the same 'north'- you can't really trust it with your life can you?
Also, the packaging was pretty lousy, as if it was opened ten times before.
