First off, I am writing this review as I have the 2006 Mountain Trailz bike (not the enlightened version) but I though I would give my opinion on it to help out any potential buyers. I love my bike and since I bought it I have used it just about everywhere. I am a bigger guy (250 lbs) and the 450 watt motor on mine is sufficient to do everything I need it for. I have mine outfitted with all the bells and whistles (racks, bags, computer/speedometer) and this can be a viable alternative to a regular vehicle.

I would assume that the enlightened version would be a step above my current bike and I will consider the upgrade in the future. If you are serious about changing your lifestyle to reduce fuel costs, but are not wanting to buy a scooter, a motorcycle and do the insurance/registration/license thing this is your best option. You can also ride on sidewalks and bike lanes unlike those other options. If you live in a flat or gently sloping area, you don't have to pedal at all if you don't want to. It will zip you along without any effort on your part. I am already planning on taking this thing on some trips around coastal NC to view some historic towns. I have already taken in on a couple light (beginner) mountain bike trails at it really gives you a degree of access that has missing for quite some time, especially if you are older and cannot exert the constant effort that riding a bicycle requires. My only regret is that I didn't find this bike sooner. I might end up upgrading the brakes but other than that I don't have any real complaints.
